Blankets for people in need!

I would like to start making blankets to give away during holidays and for people who are in hospitals for a long time, shelters for women and homeless, and different things. And ESPECIALLY for any little kiddos that don’t have a blanket.

If you have any XXL clothes that would make a pretty blanket, drapes, table cloths, material, sheets, kitchen towels, anything that would make a good blanket that you don’t want anymore I would really appreciate it. We all have that “Who’s gonna have the most material when we die” pile somewhere. I have one myself and will be using it for this.

Would also really appreciate any extra batting that you might have to help fill the blankets and make them warmer. Or any notions, sewing machine needles, thread, etc.

Even if there are rips and stuff in the clothing I can put patches on it so if you have an old jacket that you’re just going to throw away let me have it so I can make a blanket!

I will start making them and find local places here in Tulsa to take them to. Not sure I will have many if any at all ready by Christmas time but I will sure try to get some done before then.

Fantastic Ideas for decorating the Christmas tree

Need ideas on decorating the tree!

I posted this ad on craigslist the other day. These are the responses I received. GREAAAAAT ideas people. Some I never would have thought of. They’re great! Very creative people. :)heheh

Ok I know everyone’s kinda strapped for cash this year so if you have ideas on what people can do to decorate their trees without spending a bunch of money let me know. I’d love to see what all people come up with. :) I’ll be putting it on my blog and I will post it later on here. I mean things like gingerbread cookie ornaments, popcorn garland, cranberry garland, things you can make at home and aren’t too expensive. :)

I am getting TONS of ideas. I will get them set up this weekend to post on my blog and I’ll respond to each of you with the suggestions from everyone. :) Please keep the ideas coming!

Thanks for any ideas!

Jigsaw puzzle wreaths

If these items aren’t in the home that can be found at the dollar store cut a circle (frame about a half inch wide) out of green or white poster board, use old jigsaw puzzles (or purchase a 500 piece puzzle at dollar store) glue  a layer of the puzzle pieces on the wreath, then glue on second layer to “fill in the gaps” we spray paint the pieces green to create the look of evergreen wreaths, but you don’t have to the we glue small pom poms glitter/foil slivers, pipe cleaner twisted together to make miniature candy/candy canes you can also glue a picture in the center of the frame glue a piece of ribbon yarn thread ect on the back so it can be hung on the tree

Baby food jar snow globes

Empty baby food jars, fill w/water put glitter or slivers of foil, any other items that are water proof) put lid on, put ribbon or pipe cleaner around the lid and that makes the base/bottom. (top is the bottom)

Egg carton bulbs

Cut the cups/egg holders out of an egg carton (each egg holder should be separate/individual) wrap each one in foil then put a small hole in the top of each one attach 3 or four of them together w/fishing line, thread, dental floss they should hang vertical like a tassel

Paper snowflakes

Cinnamon gingerbread man

Paint a gingerbread man w/Elmer’s glue Help the children lightly cover it w/cinnamon (it’s good for tactile awareness and since of smell)

Robyn

Coffee grounds teddy bear

Same as above but with coffee grounds we also do candy cane but we mix peppermint extract w/red paint and have children paint strips on a white paper candy cane (most people may not have peppermint extract though)

Robyn

Pine cones

They can be found lots of places for free we use them to make decorations paint them w/spray paint, paint with Elmer’s glue and then roll them in cut up foil, construction paper, shaved crayons, ect

Robyn

Bird Feeders

We also make bird feeders by covering the pine cones with peanut butter and then caking them w/bird seed, tie thread around them and hang them from a tree again, I know the bird seed isn’t in most homes but they can use dried bread crumbs also

Robyn

Wax paper and crayon shaving ornaments

Cut wax paper in different shapes, place crayon shaving between two pieces of paper and melt them w/ and iron

Robyn

Sock snowmen

Place rice in the bottom of a white sock (adult or child sick sock), twist the sock and tie that piece with string creating the bottom snowball, place smaller amount of rice in the sock creating the belly section, twist and tie, place rice in the top section to create top snow ball, twist and tie the opening of the sock can be frayed out to create the look of a hat draw face buttons ect. on the snowman

TP Roll Ornaments

Use toilet paper rolls and make stuff out of them. Wrap colored paper around them, put dots on them, cover in foil, and add stuff on top.

Thea

Ribbon

Tie inexpensive ribbon to an ornament with the ornament hanger already attached this will fill in some space & add color

Margo

Florals

If you have a fancy tree, you can add floral stems instead of bulbs

Margo

Pinecones

Many times you can pick these up for free Twist on a bulb hanger or use florists wire to make a hanger adorn w/fake snow & glitter

Margo

Balloon Ornaments

You can buy a package of small balloons, inflate, & wrap with fine crochet thread dipped in Elmer’s glue wind the string all over the balloon several times & while the glue is still wet roll the ball in glitter

Margo

Themes

Use several items you already have that are the same theme or the same color

Margo

Peppermint sticks

Leave the wrapper on and hang them on the tree or you can always glue on the wiggle eyeballs & twist a pipe cleaner to make a reindeer don’t forget the mini red pom for his nose

Margo

Folded paper snowflakes

Adorn w/glitter (the clear is nice on these) press flat with an iron after you cut these out & then glitter

Margo

Raffia

If you have a country or western tree raffia tied on the branches is nice

Margo

Teddy bears

You can pick tons up at the thrift stores for pennies, and then give them away to the needy after Christmas is over
